5 Traps of Teamwork

The development of teams as the surest way to ensure increasing performance

The Five Dysfunctions of a Team programme is an adaptation of Patrick Lancioni’s programme of the same name. It has become a bestseller in the recent years and is used by many corporations worldwide.

It is easily distinguishable from other such programmes in that it: goes in the depth, on that which is important, is systematic, not eclectic unlike most teambuilding programmes on the market, and is mainly based on experiential learning.

During the programme, the manager learns, how to ensure their team does not fall victim to one of the most frequently occurring mistakes:

  • lack of trust
  • fear of conflict
  • lack of enthusiasm
  • evading responsibility
  • not focusing on the goal

What is unique about the programme is that it concentrates on the weak spots and mistakes team leaders make instead of developing ‘universal’ skills.

Despite all the interpersonal trainings, today’s managers still face problems in the aforementioned areas and often consider them impossible to overcome. Each of the said dysfunctions incapacitates the team to a great extent. On the other hand, removing these dysfunctions causes a significant performance increase. The key is in the motivation rather than in the teambuilding technique.

We have adapted the programme to the conditions of our market and augmented it with diagnostic tools developed for the diagnostics of individual role preferences in the team. Thus it became not only a one-time managerial training tool but also a continued team development tool, the development of whose parameters over time can be clearly observed.

The programme can be applied in two ways:

  • to a group a managers, each of whom leads their own team
  • to a compact team including its leader
